Bungalow roof refelt and retile

Options
We recently downsized to a small 2 bedroom 50s bungalow in near Lincoln.

On the survey they said we should look at having the felt replaced. We had a company round to replace the fascias for £1800. They said they will replace the felt and quoted £7500 and £10,000 with new tiles on top for that.

They came this morning and started work before telling us the price. Feeling under pressure and Mum has just agreed to it...

I figure there isn't much we can do now :( Just all our plans are in tatters and feeling quite deflated.

Have you told them to go ahead with the work?!

If not tell them to stop immediately?!??!
  • I posted just after we had signed saying they could start work, although they started a couple of hours before that.

It was a bit pointless to post as neither of us have the courage to say anything; we were both shocked working straight away and by the time they discussed the price with us a lot of the roof was already off.

We thought we did well shopping around for the initial fascia quote, at least. However, I'm disabled and my mum is single so whenever we try to get quotes for work you can almost hear the cash register going off in the contractor's head!

The only thing I can think of for us now is: How do we go about checking whether the roof is a good job after it is completed?

At the risk of sounding alarmist this has all the hallmarks of fraudsters.

If I were you I would contact Trading Standards urgently and certainly before you part with any money.

It's a shame you are so far away as I would have taken the case free of charge, these people make my blood boil.

I hope you get some help.
