Nationwide did both DIP and full application with just DH, although she did call me to discuss rates as DH couldn't decide.

You will struggle to get a mortgage as she hasn't yet passed her probationary period at work and her employment couldn't be considered secure. It's usually 6 months in employment...

    Not with Nationwide, it isn't.

I did my entire mortgage dip and full application over the phone without my partner present - he's in the forces and it wasn't possible for him to be there! They didn't ask to see any documents at all either although I had them all ready just in case. This was Halifax.

I did a face to face application with nationwide without my husband present. Didn't seem to be a problem at all. He needed a letter from his employer to confirm his bonus, and I had to write a letter confirming I was returning to work after maternity leave. All in all, I did 3 applications (2 properties fell through), over 3 appointments and the mortgage advisor never saw my husband. OH did have to sign the paperwork which was posted to us, but that was all.

However, we were existing customers and had a BMR to port which can't currently be beaten by any existing offers. Plus I was adamant that we had done out research and wanted the BMR and a small top up, which we had chosen the product for. Not sure if any if that makes a difference.

Really? Employees now have very few employment rights during the first two years, and can be dismissed for any reason during that period. So if the lender is looking for the employment to be 'secure' 6 months isn't going to do it.

Her contact doesn't mention anything about a probation period add she is working for them at the moment on a casual basis.
