Car cutting out
Hi all.
Really could do with some help... At the weekend, I went to get in my 53 reg automatic fiesta and it would start but as soon as it started, it would cut out again. If I kept my foot on the accelerator, it would keep running but as soon as my foot came off the accelerator, the car would cut out.
I checked the oil and it was quite low so I went and bought some new oil and put that in so now the dipstick shows its 3/4 full.
After putting the oil in, I kept my foot on the accelerator for about 10 minutes and after that, the car was fine....until this morning when it is doing the exact same thing.
It's been about 2 years since the last service so 2 years since the oil and air filters were changed so I'm wondering, if the air and oil filters needed changing, would they cause this kind of issue?
I've found the filters that I need on Halfords but are they easy to fit?

No oil and No services = The answer why its cutting out.
It needs a decent service. Oil and filter, Air and fuel filters. Plugs and leads. At the very least.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
No service is definitely the problem, that oil is going to be more like wet cement now....
I have an 03 Fiesta and get it serviced regularly, the engine is bullet proof and if it's well maintained you can have these cars for an absolute age0 -
I can do the oil change myself - I actually put 2 litres of oil in the car on Tuesday. As for the oil/air/fuel filters, are they difficult to do?
I don't want to spend too much on the car as I'm getting a new car on Saturday but at the same time, I'd hate to sell this car on for the new owner to have problems straight away.0 -

:eek: just how low was the oil!!!?!? tbh you should be telling the new owner that this is the level of servicing done to the car, and half the asking price! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

That 2litres of oil was after I drained the old oil out....don't think the car would run AT ALL if it was in need of that much oil lol0 -
you should be draining and replacing more than 2l of oil for a change then, something fishy going on here, what nick was the oil coming out, did you change the oil filter too??This is a system account and does not represent a real person. 2 litres of oil needed to topup. I wonder how much its burning now with all that excess wear for the lack of it.
He only drained 2L of oil because the rest of it was a congealed mess still stuck in the engine.
Pity the poor person that buys that car.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
