Cambelt change on Peugeot 307

Mines only six years old and done 32,000 miles. Handbook says change after 10 years. I'm tempted to change it in the next year, just to be on the safe side. What would you do?

    If it's the 1.4 I would be tempted, as I've seen quite a few forum posts about 207s cambelts snapping prematurely.

    6 years is long enough for a bit of rubber. I wouldnt push it past that.

    Get the full kit also. Tensioners and pulleys if they are plastic.

    I did the cambelt on a MK2 Mondeo. Bought the full kit anyway. Good job i did.

    Inspecting the pulleys off the car, They were showing signs of cracking.

    What engine is in the car, petrol or diesel?

    The cambelt interval for pre Dec 2006 petrol engines is 80,000 miles or 10 years, on post Dec 2006 I believe it is 100,000 miles.

    The cambelt interval for the 1.6 HDi is 144,000 or 10 years

    Maybe worth asking the question on the Peugeot Forums website to see what the general opinion of owners & mechanics is.

    From personal experience (anecdotal evidence) I wouldn't change it yet. My last car, a Peugeot 406 1.9HDi had a belt change specified at 90k, I changed it at 82k then it ran on that for another 62k until I sold it. My current 307 1.6Hdi (144K cambelt interval) is 8 years old with 102K on the clock so I will be changing the cambelt before this years summer holiday.

    Originally TU series petrol's were 72k, I've partially srtipped a Citreon C4 due to it's belt snapping at 80k (8 years old), don't even try to get it to 100k. At 6 years I'd say it was a good idea to change.
  • Need a bit of help with this issue myself. My 207 died on me yesterday. The garage told me today that the cam belt failed because of water pump failure. It's less than 10 years old and hasn't reached the 100,000 miles milestone yet and having done a bit of research today it seems like this is quite a common issue with Peugeots. My question is, given that this doesn't appear to be an isolated issue do I foot the bill for the investigation, repairs etc (investigation alone is going to cost near enough £600!) or should Peogeot? All help gratefully received.
  • The cambelt on my 56 plate 1.6 16v petrol 307 snapped a month ago, causing £950 worth of damage...wordt thing was that I'd had it changed at 55,000 miles and only put about 15,000 on the new one :-( For the price it costs to replace it I wouldn't risk it, but then again mine shows anything can go wrong with a dodgy one :-(

  • i have a 54 plate 1.4 petrol peugeot 307 i am about to change the cambelt as i feel its time would anyone suggest looking at another part at the same time?
