Deleting read mail from Windows Mail

I use Windows Mail on my desktop. I have an email that I deleted
a few days ago.
The next time I started the PC, Windows Mail came up the message that it didn't shut down properly and the deleted email was back in the inbox, however, when I try to delete it again I get the message- "A unknown error has occurred", and the message stays put.
Any ideas of how I can get rid of this message?

I had this and managed to drag it into my deleted folder. It was then deleted from there.0
