RATED PEOPLE - bad experience
twickenhamelectricians
As professional tradesmen we were finding it difficult during recession times, so joined Rated People to help find more work. After 4 days, I could see this wasn't going to work - you have to buy leads and then are competing with other tradesmen who may not be offering a decent service (and who may not be qualified). We didn't like this so tried to opt out, but they would not refund the £40 we had paid for becoming a member. Purely a money making excercise which doesn't work for a professional (electricians in our case), and does not guarantee a 'Rated' person. A rip-off act, who are more bothered to keep the £40 than offering a good service to the tradesman, and thus the customer.

Would thoroughly recommend visiting NICEIC website for a qualified electrician - this is a free service to the homeowner/customer.0

Yes - Anyone looking for a proper electrician should look here - http://www.niceic.com/
I was already suspicious about RatedPeople. The way to employ a trade is by personal recommendation (that being a person you actually know), and failing that by going to the register of people qualified in that trade.I am the Cat who walks alone0 -
Spam ? not really. The NICEIC website will give a good choice of properly qualified Electricians. Sounds good advice to me !

I dont trust any of these trades websites after i got a roofing company round via checkatrade which was 9.5 out of 10 rated. They said i needed a completely new roof at vast cost, found another roofer who repaired for £350.0

I assumed that someone using an area and trade speciality, ie twickenhamelectricians, that starts a thread with a pop at other similar trades in the same area must be looking to drum up business for electrical contractors in the Twickenham area.
I still see it as advertising.
Regarding find a trade, or rated trades or whoever, I too wouldn't go that route unless I was desperate or cluelessI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Not necessarily. I look at it more as customer information that if you need a good sparks "Rated People" might not be the best place to look . It is also a useful guide as to how these particular operations work and that site revenue maximisation is the byword not assesment of tradesmens service. .You scullion! You rampallian! There I finished it off for you !You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -
A lot of these rating websites are simply money making schemes with customer service (trade and customer) some way down their list of priorities.
Stories of negative reviews never being posted or disappearing suddenly does not inspire me with confidence in their recommendations.
