Computer problems since reinstall

jayII

I reinstalled my laptop from the hard drive to try to speed things up and I've had nothing but broblems since. Most recent problem is that windows repeatedly 'fails to install an important update' so is forever asking to restart, takes ages to shut down start up and so on because of this update.

Meanwhile, when you aren't going to be using the laptop for a while, you should run a disc check to check for errors on the hard drive.

Computer > Right click on the C: drive > Properties > Tools > Error Checking > Check Now.

If all is sound, one option that may be open to you is to run a clean install with a verified Windows 7 SP1 disc.
There is way too much unnecessary Toshiba software running. Though that won't be the reason for the failures, they do contribute to slowing the system down.

The backup disc is a little different from what you have on the hard drive recovery partition. The DVD will be 32 bit, the HDD 64 bit.

You can try another Factory Restore with the DVD and then hit Windows Update immediately. You don't even have Service Pack 1 installed at this stage.

If you still suffer from the same problems, I would recommend that you run a clean install with a verified Windows 7 SP1 disc. Mainly because your CPU is...poor. Even less powerful than what is supplied to Netbooks. I'll talk you through it at that point.

No harm in having a new disc ready.

Windows 7 Home Premium x86 SP1 U (media refresh)

Download and save. When download is complete. Place a blank DVD in the drive then double click on the downloaded image.

We'll keep that to hand in case the problem persists. Regardless of any outcome, the clean Windows 7 SP1 disc would improve the general performance. That Sempron CPU needs as much help as it can get.

The error check seems to have sorted the problem, thanks for that.

If the problem recurs I'll do the above but otherwise I think I'm just going to avoid reinstalls if at all possible until I have to replace my laptop. It doesn't seem to like them, I guess it's age is against it.
