My friends computer will start up get to the desktop and then i cant open anything, internet, my computer, anything. I will double click on things and it will show an hourglass and then dissappear. Any ideas??

can you get it to boot into safe mode and run anything ??Ex forum ambassador

Boot into Safe Mode
Run all your spyware/virus programs and delete any infected files.
Also, in normal windows open task manager and see what process is hangign or taking up all the CPU or Mem.0 -
culprits are often Firewalls, antispyware hanging on start up

i used spybot and avg but found nothing,i can boot off a usb disk. There are no non responding programs at all,and no heavy memory usage processes, really stuck0

go into msconfig
start, run, then type msconfig
remove all programs that run on start up from the start up tab then reboot and see if it works....
then add them back one by one to find the culprit ??Ex forum ambassador
