Thanks everyone for all your advice.
I don't think it was thirsty as it was covered with some type of beetle that left ash like trails under the leaves.
It has only been in the conservatory for 2 weeks,have pruned it and took all the curled leaves off and sprayed with soapy water so I will keep an eye on it for a while.0 -
thanks for this mine does this occasionally but has always been in a pot so i think i will plant it in the ground, possibly today if i get into gear0

I would leave it outside, i always thought bay leaves tree would do better outdoors.0

I agree about it being outside; ours has been out there for the past 7 years (we got it in a really dilapidated state) and it's fine even through winter.0

Hi, not sure this is the right place to post but I need some advice and am hoping someone here can help.
I got 2 potted bay trees for christmas. One is lovely and healthy with green leaves. However the other one has dry pale leaves....seems to have dried out. Will this tree recover? I wanted one on each side of my front door so want them to be the same. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance

Looks like you haven't watered it enough I think you have lost it;

My sister had this problem with a pair of 2 very expensive pyramid bays. She insisted in putting them on either side of her front door even though the conditions were far from ideal and she lost both. It might not be lack of watering, though it certainly could be, but if it was in an exposed position the wind could have dried it out very quickly. My bay tree is in a pot against a south facing sunny wall in the shelter of the house.
If it is in an exposed spot, move it somewhere sheltered and sunny and keep the compost moist. You have nothing to lose, it may recover.0 -
