Flying to Alicante, need help in deciding where to go

Looking for a budget holiday, family of 2 adults and 4 kids 10-16years.....looking for a lively but not too lively private rental, think maybe on a complex. with a large pool, and we won't have a car so near to the beach as possible...
tried La Cala, that was ok....Benidorm is a bit too lively. Hated torrevieja(probs spelt wrong) found it quite dirty...
I'm choosing Alicante as thats usually the only place with cheap flights.
Thanks in advance

we are staying about an hour from alicante, it may not be what you are looking for but its cheap and looks great - we are using it as a base to travel about but as you are driving you will need to decide if there is enough there to keep you busy

search for la torre golf resort mercia on places like ownersdirect etc

we have found that flights are not that cheap and for august

whats your overall budget and when are you looking to go?

as an idea of cost, we are going for just under two weeks in august, flying to madrid (as its cheaper) and hiring a car - for the four of us its about £1400 and thats staying in a penthouse apartment with hot tub, there are places a lot cheaper

    hope this helps

Why limit yourself to Alicante? You should be able to fly to Malaga pretty cheap too and then stay in one of the resorts around there. Apartments in Nerja, Calahonda ,Torremolinos and Fuengirola are quite cheap.

Failing that, fly into Barcelona, Girona or Reus and stay on one of the many campsites on the Costa Brava/ Dorada.

ie http://www.lifestyleholidays.co.uk/ El Delfin Verde or Castell Montgri.

When you are a family of 6, these holidays become quite viable

La Torre Golf Resort ! No way If you have no car.
I own a property on site and we have a couple of expensive eateries/bars but apart from that you have to get a taxi to local village.
    Beach is 25 minutes away.

I recommend the small towns north of Alicante (San Juan, Campello, Altea, Denia, Villajoyosa, Javea..). All of them are connected with the Tram , reallly good if you don't have a car. Beaches are wonderful. It's easy to find apartments in webs like Homelidays or Homeaway.

South of Alicante not so good.. (as you've experienced in Torrevieja).

All of them have life, but nothing like Benidorm (which I personally hate..). Plenty of things to see and do, restaurants, bars, etc.

I'm from that area, if you have any questions just send me a PM.

Yes, I really like that area. The tram service is excellent so you can easily explore the coastline and do a day trip to Alicante which is a very underrated city. Benidorm is ghastly but it can be an interesting experience for a few hours before escaping.
