New Sofa - weeks late!!!

Hi,
On 2nd Feb 2013 we went sofa shopping and ended up placing an order with a very well known high street store.
The sofa's are made to order although nothing is bespoke about it.
The sales man explained that it would take 12-14 weeks to arrive and gave us a rough date of around the 2nd of May for delivery.
We paid a £300 deposit and then sat back and waited.
8 weeks passed so I called the delivery department, they said they didnt have a date but could estimate the 2nd of Feb too.
Then a few weeks passed an the store rang to confirm the sofa would be ready on the 17th and that we could arrange delivery from the 20th.
This afternoon we get a call to inform us the sofa is now late, it will not be in the warehouse until the 24th and so we cannot get it delivered until the last week of May.
Planning for a delivery around the 20th we have now sold our old sofa which I explained to the salesman today.
He said he would see what he could do and then called back saying they could offer us £100 off the price.
I asked how it would be paid and he said "you pay the balance and then we send you a cheque)
I refused the offer and he then said he could raise it to £150.... but would still be a cheque.
My issue is, if we owe them a balance of say £1000 but due to lateness they are willing to compensate us £150 why on earth do we need to pay the full amount only to get £150 back?
Should we accept this deal? should we push for reducing the payment we make them? what are our rights?
Thanks in advance

Have you done that? What was their response?0 -
10% discount for a couple of weeks late seems like a good deal although I agree that the method they want to do it seems a bit weird.
I'd just ask them to redo the purchase/finance at £150/100 less.Thinking critically since 1996....0
