Thanks so much for all replies. DH contacted a local church just now. We get loads of things to go. I registered in free cycle web just now.

  • In addition to the above suggestions I've heard of people offering things on ebay with a starting bid of 1p! I can't vouch for its success as a method but you never know!
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

We did sell a 1p bed on eBay, many years ago which is why I forgot. I do think free cycle is quicker though, we got rid of our old sofa and chair that way.

Your council might have a free bulk collection service for the mattress you want rid of.

Our local council has a sort of recycling service for furniture, including beds.

They only do each area on a specific day of the week, ours is Tuesday, but you can give them a ring and they will book you in for the following week, for free collection.

Yours might have something similar, it's worth asking.

Get it up on gumtree, they'll be gone pretty quick if free.

Charity shops may not accept the mattresses if they are not in pristine condition - at which point I'd get the council to collect those.
