Wall stickers - ruin paint in the future

carrrr
Hi would appreciate any advice on what to do, I have a product that I know will cause me additional costs in the future.
- I bought tree wall stickers from zazous online, with the view that this would allow me to give the room character but change it easily in a year or so without having to decorate again, which I did a few months ago.
- the website stated ...
Wall stickers are a really easy way to transform your decor in a matter of minutes. Also, they can be easily removed when you fancy a change.
And in the FAQ section....
E. When I remove my wall sticker will it damage my walls?
Providing the paint was more than two weeks old when you applied the wall sticker it will simply peel off without damaging the paint finish and leave no residue behind.
However when putting up the stickers in order to match the joins I had to pull back one of the stickers (that had been gently placed on the wall not firmly stuck on ) and it removed the paint work from my wall.
I finished the stickers as it was pretty much all up anyway and am generally pleased with the result. But I now know that when I take them down I am going to have to redecorate costing me extra money.

I feel I have been mis-sold the product and as a result instead of paying for a wall sticker I will end up paying hundreds more to redecorate in the future.
I contacted the company but they didn't seem to think they had done anything wrong or mis-led me at all. They said they would never guarantee that paint work would be unaffected.
I feel mis-led and would like compensation but as its a future event that I would like compensation for, I'm not sure where I stand.
Appreciate any thoughts or advice.
Thanks.

Do you have any left over paint you can use to touch up any damage?0

Firstly, there are things you can try to get them off without causing too much damage. If you go over them with a hair dryer it loosens the adhesive and allows them to be peeled off easily. Also, when you remove them, pull straight down rather then away from the wall. Peel a little at the top, place the peeled bit between your thins and forefingers, place your forefingers against the wall, and slide down slowly (I always find this is the best technique)
However, any damage that has been caused I would say that you have a good case for having your costs for damaged paint reimbursed. They explicitly stateE. When I remove my wall sticker will it damage my walls?

Will being the operative word. Not should, but will. They have explicitly stated that your walls will not be damaged. As they have been, clearly the item was misdescribed and you may therefore have a case for recovering the cost of repairing any damage caused from the seller.
However, if the seller doesn't play ball, and your last option is to take them to small claims court, the judge will expect you to have mitigated your losses, so if you have paint lying around that you can touch up with if the damage is only minor, it may be easier to just do it that way.0 -
I'm sure a similar thread to this was on here a month ago?
I seem to remember that one didn't work out to well? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I believe in that thread the OP had applied the stickers to wallpaper...
Yep that rings a bell.
I'm pretty certain I won't be buying these stickers! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I've used these a lot and have found that on walls with painted over wallpaper or lining paper they've been fine, but on walls where paint has been applied directly to the plaster(even when prepped) they've taken the paint off.
I agree with the poster who pointed out the use of the words "will not", I think I would photograph the damage under the one you know about (not worth ruining the rest) and write to them expressing your disappointment and that they need to rethink how definite they are :-)Save £12K 2013 #54 - £4625/£15k£19,625 saved since 2011£50,000 by August 2014SPC #1925 £600 -

Not so sure it is. 15 posts, only linked that site twice out of those 15 and the first time they mentioned it was back in june and signed up over 18 month ago.
If they're spamming to promote a business, they're not doing a very good job (unless they have loads of accounts and do it once a day from a different account). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Pretty sure it is and you're correct, they're doing a terrible job as they're not even clever enough to figure out this is a UK board and they're based in Massachusetts!0
