6 month rental agreement - hoping for early release

Hi all,

I recently sold a house, and at the time couldnt find a property to buy, so rather than risk losing the buyer ( full asking price and no chain ) we went into rented.

we found a nice 4 bed townhouse and moved in, then 2 weeks later, a house we liked came back onto the market.

we are in the process of buying, problem is at completion, we will still have 3 months rental to go, I signed the contract, so fully accept Ive to pay the 6 months, no issue there.

just wondering, is it worth asking the landlord, if he would consider us exiting 3 months early, obviously, we would reimburse him any losses and pay some sort of early exit charge, after all, if he was kicking me out before 6 months were up, I would be expecting some sort of pay off.

is this something a landlord would agree too, if so what would a reasonable amount for me to offer? was thinking along the lines of "if you let us out early and are able to get tennants to move in as we go, we would agree to you keeping our deposit?

this gesture on our part would be worth £1100 to him ( rental is £795 per month)

any landlords here? is this a good offer, what would you charge?

thanks
j

  • Lots of landlords will agree with this, lots of landlords won't. The only way to find out is to ask.

I don't think you need to offer that much, have a conversation, see how it goes and you might find they will let you go early providing they find another tenant at no cost!
