I am getting married at the end of May and we are going on our Honeymoon the following day, my mom has very kindly offered to look after our 2 cats, however she has an older cat herself and when shes not in she is going to lock them in the bedroom which is fine with me as its only going to be a few hours a day, however on the day of our wedding she will staying over at the hotel, so they will go 24 hours locked in the bedroom, the other thing is the male cat is very greedy so I am worried about him eating all the foot from the automatic pet feeder.
I am ever so worried about them but theres no other option, do you think they will be ok for 24 hours?

Personally I think more than a few hours is too long to be locked in. Especially in a strange place.
Can you/your Mum not get someone to check on them several times during the day?0 -
Can't you have them in a cattery for a couple of days?******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

Don't you have any catteries in the area?0

I leave my pets for 24 hours if Im away. My mum will feed them if Im away any longer than that, they get left plenty of food, water, fresh litter. But they arent locked in a room, they get the run of the flat and Ive never had any problems with them. I also dont use an automatic feeder, I just leave biscuits and water out for them, plenty of both and my mum will bring them more down when shes coming down to feed them.
I wouldnt lock them in a room in a strange house, in fact mine wouldnt take kindly to being locked in a room for 5 minutes, is there no way they can get access to the rest of the house while your mum is away?0 -
What nickyhutch and Alikay say! Book them in for a couple of nights and enjoy your wedding day knowing they are being looked after.0

I personally wouldnt and have never left my cats in a cattery, particularly as they were rescue cats but everyone is different.0

I wouldn't do it. the only time our cat is confined to one room is at bed time, when we shut the kitchen door ( his bed/food/water/litter tray is in there), we have done this from day 1, and we've never had any problems with him. 24 hours in strange house confined to one room, is another matter. Book them in to the cattery, or get someone to come to yours to cat sit?0

If my cat is accidentally shut in a room, he goes mad and digs the carpet up trying to tunnel out. The carpet gets pulled right up behind the door and then it is extremely difficult (and damaging to the carpet) to force the door open. I would never knowingly shut him in a room, and definitely not for 24 hours.... the carpet would be shredded!I'm a retired employment solicitor. I don't see how a cattery is any different to being shut in one room, really. At least in a cattery there are staff there in case the cats decide to fight, or start trashing the place, or one gets ill.0 -
Oh its not a completely strange flat as they have been there before, however last time they were there my one cat chewed through all the wires (she is always doing this) in the spareroom there are no wires for her to chew through, they are indoor cats and to be fair they get locked in the living room every night and they are ok.
I couldn't put them in a cattery as my female cat is very very timid around other people, literally as soon as someone comes round our house she hides under the sofa until they are gone, when there gone she's make to her normal self, the only other person shes fine with is my mom.
Getting someone to pop round is a no go as everyone we know who we would trust with keys to the house are coming to the wedding.Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010
