Expect all you like, but if you turn up at an airport without a ticket you will be charged the highest possible price. Only businessmen desperate to make a meeting travel like that, and the airlines are geared up to make as much as possible from these situations.

while this is true for schedule and budget airlines its not always true for package deals. Yes they can still be had but why put yourself through the stress? with the internet now its so easy to book the day before or even the day of travel with some sites
(allowing time to check in and travel to the airport)
Nearly all airports have a travel agency inside so its obviously still big business but then your limited to the airport your in
I would come on here the day before you want to travel and see what everyone can find but you have to be flexiable for the best deals

1 example if you could leave tomorrow from Gatwick

    £242.20 inc flight/apartment/inflight meals/transfers
    Thu 24 May 2007
London Gatwick to Costa de Almeria
    1 Week
    2 Adults
    London Gatwick Almeria (2hrs 30mins)
    Thu 24 May 2007 Thu 31 May 2007
    Departs: 07:00 Departs: 11:45
    Arrives: 10:45 Arrives: 13:25
Airline: Thomas Cook Airline: Thomas Cook
    In-Flight Meals included
    20kg Baggage Allowance
Puerto Marina in Mojacar, Costa de Almeria 4*
    1 x One Bedroom
This isnt the cheapest you will find but with it being bankholiday weekend lates are a litlte higher than normal
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

With last minute package deals you may find that meals & hotel transfers aren't included in the price
