I usually have aa breakdown but am in severe financial difficulty this year but still would feel better as a lone female to have some kind of cover. The auto aid one seems to be an ok one .Has anyone had any experience of them at all? its the type whereby you pay first and then they re imburse you which is so different from the aa. I have probably used them on average once per year but that once could make all the difference if you are totally stuck somewhere!

If you're in severe financial difficulty are you going to be able to pay the breakdown company several hundred pounds in advance, get recovered/fixed, and wait for Auto Aid to reimburse you?

I travel regularly to the extremities of the UK and I'd rather not have to sort out payment to be recovered 600 miles back home. Breaking down is stressful enough as it is! However I don't dismiss Auto Aid completely. If your journeys are local/to and from work then it is suitable.

I've been with Autoaid for a couple of years and had no problems. They have been quick and efficient settling claims. You do need to be able to pay upfront first which could be expensive if you are ferried a long way. I think the charge was nearly a pound a mile when I was rescued.

You can pay by credit card. Autoaid are very quick in sending you the money back, usually before you receive your credit card statement!

At first when taking out car breakdown cover, I wasn't in a position to be able to pay the costs and took out cover with RAC and this year Green Flag (through Quidco of course!).

Next year though, will defo be going through AutoAid...

Autonational Rescue, their sister company, do the same thing but you don't pay up front for the rescue, although they are dearer (£66 for the car which includes a 25% ncd if you have not had a breakdown in the last 12 months), and cover the car not the driver.
