Too many people suggesting their own referral links in postings

I fully agree with charlie12's post.I believe all referral links should be kept on that board and only MSE links promoted on other boards which will be to all our advantage.
I have found that these posters tend not to post in the discussion except for their referral link.
Worth fine tuning ppossibly.

perhaps instead of or as well as having the email report bad post feature there can be a button that you can click to flag bad posts/referral posts ie that way the mods can see which posts have been flagged a lot and can check them out. I personally am much less likely to write an email to abuse@ whereas i wouldn't object to hitting a button and it did the job?0

You don't have to write an e-mail you simply click on the "" and then press send. Admittedily I haven't tried to submit an empty email, but you could always tap in a few charaters.
The important bit of the email is the subject line which is generated when you click on the triangle.0 -
I would have thought it's more helpful to those receiving the e-mails if you say "abusive post" "duplicate post" "referral link rule breach" or similar - which is what I do. It only takes 20 letters or so!
Nelly, you really are being a bit lazy on this!0 -
You do in fact have to give a reason for hitting the report button as how would the abcon team know what was wrong.0

Just thought I'd add my voice calling for these referral posts to be stopped.
Sure it must be simple to have a rule that any link must not produce a profit for the poster. The number of these posts is getting ridiculous and particularly noticeable if you don't check the site for a day or two.
Just me 2p worth.0 -
no its not so much a matter of being lazy (well it is) but on my laptop which i commonly use but not for checking emails etc i do not have any applications to catch the mailto: links so unless i log into webmail and manually copy the email stuff accross it seems like effort. i just close the window that loads up (as im sure most do)
so perhaps instead of a button that leads to an email window perhaps it should be a form instead. i would certainly be more inclined to do that? so the warning buttons opens a html form window which effectively duplicates what would be found in an email??
i dunno, i cant beleive im the only person that when prompted with the email closed it immediatly??0 -
Yeah I agree NellyLock, the mailto: link doesn't work properly for me (I use Eudora as my email client). The "To:" field gets filled in but the URL in the subject line isn't correct (I have to copy and paste it). As a result, I don't report as many posts as I'd like to. Many forums (e.g DVD Forums) have a simple web form to make a report instead, much easier and quicker.
Many people use web-based email which doesn't work with the "mailto:" links.0
