Credit Card missed payments (explained)

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but it's related to a credit card and me being worried about my credit rating.
I'll explain the situation below:

I have been a holder of a credit card for over 6 years. In that time I hadnot missed one payment. Just before Christmas, I paid off my credit card and in a way, forgot about the card itself. I never made any payments after that. However recently at my old residence address, through my parents, I received a letter from a debt collection agency. This was regarding to a payment, which I was unaware had come out of my credit card (In Feb) , Upon looking into the issue I can see where the payment originated from. And that from Feb I had been racking up charges of around £14 per month. However I was not made aware of the payment until yesterday when the letter was received.

I have paid the charges and the statement is clean again. But am worried that because the payment wasn't on time and a letter had to be sent out from a debt collection agency I now have a mark on my credit rating. Is this true? If so how long would it last? Or would I be able to call the credit card company and see if it can be resolved without a mark being made?

Thanks for reading (sorry for the length of text)

Greg

Looks like another case of caught out by Continuous Payment Authority.. why was the account not closed down properly or updated with the new address details?

Were you aware the renewal had gone through? was it something you had subsequently cancelled?

By all means try writing to the card company, but without a good explanation they may not be receptive to changing the factual information recorded..

It'll last 6 years. Its impact will diminish over time.

Check to see if it is marked as missed payments or a default.

If it's gone as far as a debt collector, it will definitely have affected your credit file. You would have received letters about the outstanding balance before the debt collector got involved, did your parents not pass these on to you ?

If its only 2/3 months ago, then the debt collection agency is likely to be just an in-house setup.. Many companies have this kind of setup as a different letterhead on the mail sent usually gets a response..
