A practical word of warning for those people purchasing excess car rental insurance. Read the scope of cover and compare it the hire companies terms and conditions.
There is one web based car rental quote system that sells excess car rental insurance that excludes cover for the cost of breakdowns and recovery. The company they utilize for providing car hire in southern europe includes in their terms a responsibility for the hirer to meet the cost of breakdowns and recovery.
Best advice is that if you are contemplating hiring a car abroad is to purchase the excess insurance protection from one of the main web providers and then check the extent of the wording to ensure you have full protection.
