Direct debit help, What to do next?

OP. If you claim under the DD Guarantee and get refunded by the bank. You will then have the company chasing you for the money owed and also possible charges at their end.
You do not say what the DD is for but weekly on a certain day is unusual.
Add in there have been a couple of Mondays that have been non banking days.
Even if funds are taken 2 days late, why have you no funds in the account to cover the DD?
That would be your fault for not ensuring that you have funds to cover the debit.
Perhaps you need to keep a eye on your account.
By all means try and force the bank to return the payments and refund you. But be prepared to have the company chasing you all the way to court.
You will be biting off nose to spite your face. and could end up even worse off.....
How is this payment " unauthorised payment " as you have given the company permission to debit.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
johnboi - CANCEL the direct debit NOW and tell the debt collectors to send you a credit book for you to pay with.
Are you also 100% sure it is not a standing order rather than a D/D?0 -
Sounds like an issue with the company, as people have said, the bank does not control the Direct Debit, it is the company's responsibility.
The bank simply facilitate the process of a Direct Debit agreement.
I would raise a complaint with the company directly and evidence the charges incurred to them to see if they will reimburse you.0 -
the account in question is my partners, I only found out what has been happening 2 1/2 months ago. we have another 2 DD debits that come of on a tuesday on a weekly basis and have had no problems paying them or the dates in which it comes of.dalesrider wrote: »You do not say what the DD is for but weekly on a certain day is unusual.

If a direct debit fails to go through it may try again 3 days later, or so i have been told this is why it has came of on a thursday also.
The payment is unothorised as we only pay by DD if it can come of on a specific date to avoid this type of thing. If the payment comes of on a date that I did not give my authorisation to or the company gave no notice of a date change then it has to be an unothorised payment regargless of anything else.0 -

Good luck arguing that point to anyone.
I think even if you went to FCA on it, they would back the bank.
If you only want the payment to come out on a certain day, then ask your bank if you can set up a standing order to send a payment on a Tuesday.
Or set up a faster payment to go out on each Tuesday. most banks allow these to be set up 31 days in advance. So you could easily do a month at a time.
Its either the above or rely on the company to take the payment on the day they should.
But a possibility is that you do not have enough funds at the start of Tues and the DD gets bounced back to them.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
