Any help would be much appreciated
I have a really strange problem with my computer, one day when i was watching a video the sound just went really quiet,
i use the AUX function on my stereo for my PC sound, turned up the volume on the stereo to the max which i never do and its listenable but having trouble hearing
stereo is also a dvd player so tried a dvd the sounds fine on that so its definatly a problem with the computer
have checked all the wires/connections they seem fine, checked a different player on the PC no difference,
the windows sound control is upto the top on everything, nothing is muted driving me mad wondering what it could be
any suggestions?

Remove the cable attached to the 'AUX' port. Play a dvd through your latops, does it sound better? If so, you need a new cable. If not;
Cast your mind back to whatever it was you installed prior to this happening. Did you perhaps try out a different player, but didn't uninstall it? Have you installed some 'codec pack' recently? If so, uninstall it. Or prioritise the most appropriate to your needs:
Click the START button and find the control panel under "All Programs" or run the control panel the way your normally would.
Click on the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" icon.
Click on the Hardware tab, and highlight (click on) VIDEO CODECS.
Click the Properties button, and then select the PROPERTIES TAB to view your installed codecs.
Double click a codec to see its corresponding properties. If a particular codec has any options that can be customized, you will see these options when you double click the codec name.
If all else fails, use system restore to a date when it last worked as it should. Then use something like VLC http://www.videolan.org/ to play your content.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
thanks for the reply
tried the laptop using AUX - works fine
i tried (am already using) videolan - my main player - sonic stage for music and windows media player
havent installed anything recently or done anything i can think of - going to re-install windows soon after my exams anyway so dont want to do a restore, if i can
havent touched my codec's in while
checked the codec's in the way mentioned, when i go into it, windows has a message saying theyre working fine, very few are customiseable, the ones there are changing the options doesnt make a difference.
