Hi guys I was hoping to apply for the Hilton Hhonors credit card to take advantage of there opening offer whereby if you spend £750 in the first three months you get a first nights gift certificate. I am hoping to go holiday in the summer and thought it would come in handy.

The concern I have is I previously held a Hilton credit card but after using it for about six months I cancelled it due to not using it. I then was awarded a free gift certificate but unfortunately never got around to using it before it expired. I cancelled the card about 6-7 months ago. Will this have an effect on my chances of acceptance again and will I be viewed as a new customer eligible for the gift certificate or just as a returning customer.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Acceptance, it is unlikely to change however the promotion may well just be for "new" customers and returning within 6 months may be too soon to qualify for it. A quick call could probably solve it though
  • Barclaycard consider people to be new customers after six months so you should be fine on that front. Take a look at the T&Cs (should be available online) regarding the free night voucher but I reckon you should be good, especially considering you didn't sue the last one.

Where are you going on holiday? Don't be silly and use the voucher at a cheap Hilton! It's valid at any Hilton owned hotel worldwide so it includes the fancy Conrad and Waldorf Astoria brands, used correctly it could be worth up to £250-300.
