Well...if you *could* afford the mortage payments with your benifits and careers allowance he can't force you to sell the house till your son is 18.
But if you want to do it that way be prepared for a battle & you'd better sort your finaces out soon as he won't be paying the mortage/bills if you go down that road.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
You hold all the cards, stay in the house and claim what you are entitled to. As a carer you will get Income support, and will get mortgage help. He cannot force you to sell the house and you will be able to afford to stay in it. Get professional advice.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Agree with this. Don't make any hasty decision at the moment. Get advice from CAB, and the benefits sites like turntous. Research all what you are entitled to before even contemplating selling the house etc. As already said - you may be surprised at what you are entitled to.
So sorry to hear you are going through this. It is a tough time for the best of people. Take care of yourself and accept any offers of support from family and friends.

Please start by making all the applications now for benefits. That way you do not get in a mess if he suddenly stops paying everything tomorrow. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

For tax credits you will need to end your joint claim (if you have one) and reapply as a single claimant.
Just be aware that you monies maybe/will be stopped until the transition is completed. But you will get the reward backdate. I think I had to wait two or three weeks for my payments to be paid again.I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. agree with all the above, use a card until they get backdated. Don't give up your home, remain firm but friendly with you ex to foster his connection with the child, but do not waiver from your position, and get to a position where income form benefits or work is yours and not being given by him, because he could stop unless you do as he says and sell.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0
