I have just discovered a worrying change to permissions on several executable short cuts on my desktop
"INTERACTIVE" appears to have READ and EXECUTE permissions
Any suggestions ?
I may just remove the permissions but what is it ?

Hmmm, I'm seeing the same. never noticed that before. There were at least 10 Windows updates this morning as well as an Adobe Reader update.

    You've got me worried now.

At least - if MS are responsible - we know who to blame !!

When I remove the permissions - the exe fails to run - so it must be necessary to run the file !!!
This is worrying and enthralling at the same time !!

If you remove Execute permissions from an Executable programme, then ... well ... it'll fail to Execute. ;)

I've no idea what INTERACTIVE is though.

It is my understanding (but I could be wrong :p )that the Interactive group is there to enable any user logged on the machine to be able to use said programme(s).
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail

If this is the case - why did MS not give us any warning ?
This is going to cause havoc in businesses - raising security alerts ....
    When was it implemented ?

    INTERACTIVE
Includes the user account for the user logged on locally at the computer. Members of the Interactive group gain access to resources on the computer at which they are physically located.

This group includes all users who log into Windows 2000 Server or Professional locally. Users who are connected across a network are not members of this group.

Any help? Looks like the account has existed on windows versions since 2000-odd
