DELL drivers update utility - scam or spam?

I have a newish Dell desktop pc running win7 pro. I have it set to auto update overnight. There is also a Dell Support Center icon on my desktop.
Recently I noticed another icon "Dell drivers update utility". When clicked this presents a list of drivers for my pc for things like my Nvidia graphics card, the Realtek sound card etc, which it says need updating. If you click to update it asks you to provide the registration number emailed to you (?) and then takes you to a pay for the drivers screen.
Now it keeps popping up a message on the bottom of my screen saying my drivers are out of date and it is getting very annoying.
I assume it is a scam/spam which somehow snuck onto my system, which is firewalled up to the rafters by the way, anyone care to comment?

If you go into control panel and then "Uninstall a Program" you should be able to remove it there.
Nvidia & Realtek drivers can be downloaded from their sites.0 -
dell never charges for drivers etc sounds like you picked up a malware version i would suggest downloading malwarebytes updating defs once got then run a full scan then delete out rubbish, also after that goto dell site punch in service tag code and will list all drivers for that exact machine.

Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0
