AAARRRGGH!
Just listened to my voicemails and had one call from my dad going mad at me about an unpaid parking fine:mad: (Note to self, must stop getting mail sent to parents house!)
It's apparently now £90 as its been 6 weeks since it was issued, but the worst thing is I don't even remember getting one, and it was apparently on a bank holiday monday when I didn't think they applied, but have just checked and it does.
Any advice on what to do? As it says 'Penalty Charge' are these unenforcable like the penalty charges on bank acounts?
PLEASE HELP

Either you got a ticket or you didn't, it's not something you would forget unless you do it on a regular basis. If you didn't, dispute it, if you did, pay it before it gets any higher.
Assuming that you have moved out permanently:
change the registered address of your car before plod pulls you, and also inform your insurance company if you haven't already. I also suggest you move all your mail to your new address, as sometimes unanswered post can carry a financial cost when they aren't addressed sharpish (bills/debts/fines etc.)
You can't claim back excessive charges.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I hear your pain! I got stung with a parking ticket like you last night, difference being mine is only £25.
I would love to contest it as the parking charges sign did not make it obvious that there was a charge for evening parking, however, at the end of the day it does state it, I just mis-read/didnt read the relevant parts. Mainly because all other parking in town is free after 6pm and the sign stated charges from 9am - 6pm before then adding a couple of different paragraphs about disabled parking and permit parking, then underneath that bumph it advised of the evening charge.
What do people reckon, do I dispute it? Thing is that if it isnt paid in 7 days it goes up to £50 (and what with this being a bank hol and everything this weekend!)0 -
they are enforceable and can leave you with a ccj.
http://www.manchester.gov.uk/environment/parking/pcnappeal.htmThe current cost of a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN / parking ticket) is £60 or £30 if paid within 14 days of the date of issue and increases to more than £60 if it remains unpaid.
How to lodge an appeal
Because all matters relating to a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN / parking ticket) can lead to a debt being registered at the County Court, they have a legal significance. As a result, you can only appeal using the following methods:
By filling in our online first line appeal form
By writing to Street Management Services
You should try to do this within 14 days from receiving the ticket, explaining why you wish to appeal. If an appeal is not received within 14 days the full charge rate of £60 will apply.
If your appeal is successful, we will cancel the PCN.
If your appeal is rejected, we will allow you 14 days from the date of our reply to pay the reduced charge of £30.
If your payment is not received after 28 days, we will send the registered keeper of the vehicle a notice-to-owner (NtO) letter.
A notice-to-owner letter provides a final chance to pay the PCN or to appeal. If your appeal is successful, we will cancel the PCN.
National Parking Adjudication Service (NPAS)
If your appeal is still rejected, we will send you a Notice of Rejection letter and an appeals form. You can then either pay the full charge or send the completed appeal form to the National Parking Adjudication Service (NPAS) (external site), an independent organisation where a lawyer will examine your case. NPAS will not charge you to appeal. The decision by NPAS is final and binding on both sides.
If you lose your appeal or do not pay the notice-to-owner
If you lose your appeal or do not pay the notice-to-owner then, normally 28 days after we have sent you the notice-to-owner (NtO) letter, we will send you a charge certificate asking you to pay an extra 50% in addition to the full price. You have no further right to appeal at this stage.
If you do not to pay, we will register the charge as a debt at the County Court. The debt will then be placed with Certified Bailiffs who will take responsibility for collecting the debt owed to the Council. This will add further costs to the charge.
Disputing your Penalty Charge Notice (PCN)
Although we appreciate that you may be upset or annoyed at receiving a PCN, we will only cancel a ticket when it is justifiable and reasonable to do so.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10
