Car Dilemma...

If you lost your no claims bonus before you bought the car how come the insurance wasn,t sky high when you insured the saab? You did tell your insurance the reason you lost the bonus didnt you?
Of course I told them, but I bought the Saab in March and my insurance isn't due for renewal until August, so I just changed the policy to cover the new car.
When I renew in August my no-claims will drop to 1 year. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

Has the car been well serviced? An oil and filter change, air filter and spark plug change may help that little bit with the fuel economy, but either way you do have a relatively fuel hungry car. But it sounds like you have decided to get the money out of it, which probably isn't a bad choice. You never know you may find another nice cheap car in the future when your insurance won't cost so much.0

I certainly hope so, anewman. IN fact I really hope to get another Saab when my insurance allows - and this time I'll PROTECT IT!!!
I love this car and cannot fault it - it drives so nicely with no effort and hardly any sound (except when you put your foot down & make full use of that low pressure turbo!), plus it's very reassuring to drive a car so sturdy & solid. You can tell you and your family are safe in it. But it's just not suitable for my circumstances at the moment.
BTW can anyone recommend a good safe, reliable family car with lots of boot space, low insurance group and excellent mpg?The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

A ford focus 1.6 is a good medium size family car, a vauxhall astra also has lots of boot space. Insurance groups for these cars are about group 6.0

If they are advertised in your local auto trader at £3,000 that in general will not be the price they sell at. I would have thought somewhere between £2250 - £2500 is more realistic. For £3,300 I would be expecting a new style plate for tha sort of money.
The other thing is the higher priced ones will be sold as by dealers who have to offer some sort of warranty on their car. As a private seller you will never get as much.
If you really want to sell it you need to drop the price to realistic levels.0 -

Has anyone used ecar and what are the payg quotes like compared to the standard quote?
I presume you are paying 1yr premium in 8 months0 -
I was just looking through the threads in my UserCP and I found this one - I'd forgotten all about it!
Here's the outcome of it all:
Driving my Saab has always given me a sense of confidence that my family is well protected when we're out driving, just in case something should happen. We've been driving to Cornwall a lot lately and that confidence has been invaluable.
Couple that with the fact it's such a pleasure to drive, and I just couldn't bring myself to part with it.
I still have it now and it's still going strong. I changed my driving style to something a lot more sedate and it's now quite a bit more economical. I've also changed jobs and my commute now takes me along lots of long, straight dual carriageways, which the Saab is very well suited to.
I have no regrets about my decision to keep it.
A big thankyou to everyone on here who gave me their opinions and made it easier for me to make my decision. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

They really are falling through the floor these days. I'm looking at 9-5s and they're available for buttons.
You're in the trade, if I remember rightly, don't suppose you know of any nice ones up to about £6k?What goes around - comes around0
