N-Power issue, over charging?

We live in a 2 bedroom, bungalow. We use the central heating for only around 1 hour a day.
We did pay £150 a month, however suddenly they have decided to start charging £241 a month. Now we live in a small house, just me and my husband.
My family who live in a 4 bedroom house with 4 of them in the house don't use nearly as much.
Can anyone advise me? Is it possible there's something wrong with our meter to give such high readings?

I've just tried turning everything off to see if the meter still goes round, however I've turned it all off and it tripped a fuse, I turned the fuse back on and despite all of my items being plugged in, it's not moving but before it was going round quite fast. I am so confused.0

"Apparently" we use 47,774 Kwh a month ?
This consumption would generate a bill in excess of £5,000
Is this what you have reckoned by looking at your meter, or is this what you have actually been billed for by N'power ?- Either way, the meter or the reading is way off track
Meters are generally reliable, but it seems from your posts that you have a meter where the display numbers are on revolveing drums, (Rather like a car mileometer), with a spinning silver disk - This type is quite old and just might be beyond it's service life - Although age tends to slow them up a little, not turn them into Ferraris
Check back thro' past bills to identify when the useage jumped up, then if you are sure the meter is failing, report it to n'power asking for a meter check - They will make a charge for this, which you get back if the meter is faulty0
