Who gets the NCD?

Options
I'm 25, just got my licence. Got a quote from LV.

Policy holder (and car owner) is my dad. Main driver is me.
Who gets the NCD? Lady on the chat system said it was the policy holder, but that doesn't make sense. She also answered something else wrong so I'm not certain.

Your Dad as he is the policy holder is the correct answer.

    :( thanks.

Not sure whether to get extortionate price for my policy or just this now.

Some insurers will also give NCD to named drivers, as long the named driver takes out their own policy with the same insurer. Direct Line and Aviva do this.

When I first started on my own policy, Zurich insurance gave me a years no claims to kick me off as I'd been insured on my dads insurance policy for about three years - but they only did this when my broker asked them nicely. A year later I had accrued two years no claims and went elsewhere.

Don't want to scare you but if you are the main driver but your dad is the policy holder, you may be committing an offence called 'fronting' (and invalidating the insurance as well). You might want to google it or something...

That entirely depends on whether the OP was correctly declared as the main driver. LV specifically ask who is the main driver and it does not necessarily have to be the policyholder - I have a policy with them where I declared one of the named drivers as the main driver and they were quite happy with that.
Assuming the OP answered this question accurately there is no fronting.

The lady from lv could only answer for her own company.

Different companies operate how they give NCD differently.

Most but not all just give NCD to the policyholder. (eg RAC give the NCD to the main driver irrespective of who is the policyholder).

So shop round if you want to get NCD without having the expense of being the policyholder! (As already posted some companies give both policyholder and named drivers NCD)
