Yes, I do realise that. Him and plenty of self employed people, so the OP has lots of company.
The problem I see with being self employed, especially in view of the fact that 75% of all self employed people in Britain are micro businesses, i.e. they don't employ anyone, (source: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/growing-your-business-a-report-on-growing-micro-businesses) is that, if UC goes ahead in its current form, the benefit subsidies for self employed people are going to drop like a stone, because of the minimum income floor.
While, at the rate the implementation is going, plus the intense lobbying against the MIF by self employed interest groups, this MIF may never come to pass, surely self employed people need to have a look to the near future and ask themselves whether they have either the capital or the talent to be making a profit of £10k or so per annum by the time the MIF comes in.0 -
