Home Buyers Report

I have just had an offer accepted on my first house and I am now in the process of trying to arrange a homebuyers report.
I know that our mortgage lender will be going to do a survey purely for valuation of the house and that we should still get a separate home buyers report. My mortgage broker has mentioned that I could get the homebuyers report combined with the basic valuation survey (obviously at a slightly extra cost) from the lender.
I just wondered if people could let me know whether this is a good idea or whether I should get the homebuyers report done by somebody totally different?
Thanks

Depends on whether you wish to save some money by using the same surveyor.
Personally, I would go for an independent surveyor as he will have no conflict of interest.I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0 -
Conflict of interest...?
Ring 2 or 3 RICS surveyors and get quotes.
Then ask your lender how much it costs to upgrade their Valuation to a Homebuyers.
Usually cheaper to use the lenders surveyor (lots of overlap in travel and the work), but some lenders wack on an exhobitant fee, so ask.0 -
If it saves you money overall, I would just use the mortgage lenders people.
The bank want to know if the house is worth the money and whether there are problems, and so do you.0
