Terrified of claiming ppi - aggressive dca

I foolishly took out a card with Aqua in 2007. I was advised to take ppi to help my application, however when I received the confirmation I read the t and c's and realised it didn't apply to me. I tried to cancel it and was told I can't. So I was stuck with it. Well, fast forward a few years I destroyed my card and started making payments to close my account.
There was a mess up (mostly theirs partly mine but that's a whole other thread) Ihave been considering making a ppi claim against them but am now being chased by a company called Lucas credit services. I have tried explaining the situation with them but they are not interested. I am trying to deal with them separately (I just want to make it clear the debt and the ppi are two separate issues) but, if I start a claim will it get 'tougher' from Lucas? Because even though I know I was mis-sold I am not sure I can handle that.

Your PPI complaint has nothing to do with Lucas.
If you do complain about your PPI, any redress will first go against the debt, unless it's been completely sold on. They may have written amounts off for example.
Do no use a reclaim company because if you are successful and they do offset your redress, you'll end up having to pay the company anyway.

I want to do it myself but am terrified. Shame I can't do it by email. But thank you for reassuring me.0

Lucas are not going to know you complained about your PPI. There's nothing to feel terrified about. Fill in the form to the best of your knowledge, send it off and then forget about it.
You need the account number and a good complaint reason. If you tried to cancel it already and were told no, put that down too.

Send the letter recorded delivery, fill out the form. What's the worst that can happen? they say no. Nothing apart from the cost of a letter and an hour of your time.0

Under no circumstances should you use a claims company. If you do and you succeed you in your complaint, the company will bill you against the full amount of the redress. However, you are unlikely to see any of the redress as it can be offset against the debt. So, you would be out of pocket.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
