Wednesday 15th May - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym. :D

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. :T

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

  • Morning ziggy thanks for starting us off.

    My list for the day:

    * check banking & cc statement. Make payments from yesterday
    * make banana bread & weetabix brownies
    * had weetabix for brekkie rather than buying more porridge that ran out yesterday
    * all meals from stores - make BNS soup for lunch & dinner from plan
    * filling - didn't finishing this yesterday as dd was having stomach pains and took her to doctors
    * called brokers yard as my rear passenger window shattered last night. They have one and can fit it for £35 so will be driving over there this afternoon (very annoying as only last week had to do some repairs and it cost £170 and now this!)
    * cleaning car after shattered window...
    * find missing mobile phone that I was going to sell....
    * do some work for the charity and have meeting tonight
    * read Martin's email

Think that will do. Have a lovely day x

  • Hi all,

Thanks to ziggy for starting us off.

DNMS - have you got a recipe for the banana bread please? I have some that need using up.

Not feeling great today, generally fed up. The mission:

    Check online banking

    B/L/D from stores

That's about it. OH told me he's been asked to go to Brazil and will need £750. I don't have £750. Suppose I will have to pull it out of thin air. Feel like I'm getting the bum end of the deal financially in our house. i seem to have all the worry and scrimp when OH gets to splash out however he feels with no thought for the future (or the present for that matter). Tried to bring it up but it caused an argument.

    Sorry for the rant :(

Afternoon all! Where has the morning gone again? It always seems to go so fast when I'm at home yet drag when I'm at work :(

It's a Stitching Witch day today so I'm busy in the sewing room and lost track of time. :D

    So far:
    • Ran WM overnight on Economy 7
    • Breakfast from stores
    • Put goose carcass in slow cooker to make a hearty stew for tonight
    • Fed and watered the chickens
    • HC on airer as it's too drizzly to hang outside
    • Watered all my seedlings
    • Checked CC statement
    • Checked water bill - still in credit
    • Asked DH to collect my parcel from the sorting office as he drives past - saves me a 16 mile round trip to town
    Yet to do:
    • Lunch from stores
    • Set up next month's CC payment so it's not late - I refuse to pay late charges like DH does most months!
    • Clean out chickens in exchange for eggs
    • Continue with quilt - this one is destined to be sold! :j
    • Finish making the goose stew and serve with crusty bread
    • Have a self-pamper evening as DH and DS3 will be out at the cinema ;)
    • Have an NSD

That'll be my day. I must grab lunch then get back to the stitching....

    Hi all,
Not much MSE action here today so far, apart from doing a few very tedious surveys. However have just delivered myself a significant kick up the bum & am about to embark on the following:
*Put kettle on (NOT filled to the brim!) to make cup of tea for inspiration.
*Do the ironing & make sure I switch off for the last garment.
    *Make packed lunch for tomorrow.
*Ferret around at the back of my jar cupboard for some decent jars for tomorrow's planned chutney-making session.
*Deal with my intray, clear filing & while I'm at my desk, update both the household & my personal spends budget.
*Sort out paying my credit card in full (only put planned expenditure on there so as to get the free John Lewis vouchers).
*Make tonight's dinner from May meal plans - beef & pea kerala.
*Remember to close greenhouse window. So cold here today I don't think it'll do our future veg much good to have that chilly night air blowing in on them!
*Might do a freezer list if I have time.
Right, that's the kick up the bum firmly delivered.....now to sign off & go & do it!
    Cheers,

Good afternoon everyone, Not a very mse day so far as I took dd to toddler group and then we met up with a friend for lunch. Apart from doing that all I have done so far today is the school runs.

My list for the rest of today:

*[STRIKE]Contact the council as they have sent me in an overdue notice but I requested to pay it on the 15th, which was supposed to have been set up last month[/STRIKE]Sorted now after spending 30 minutes on the phone. I will save some money this month then pay slightly more till January due to their error (suprise suprise)
*[STRIKE]Check the bank and move money around[/STRIKE]Not looking too good but I get paid on Friday so managable
*Feed all of the pets and see if the chickens are enjoying their new enclosure, as DH managed to get it finished last night
*Check for and complete any available surveys
*Swagbucks, Swapits, TCB, Nectar Adpoints, Birthday bingo, Postcode lottery
*Do another load of washing and hang up indoors the load that was done last night
*Iron 10 things off iron mountain
*Email college regarding course that I want to do
*Phone the dentist to cancel ds's appointment
*Phone the landlord regarding required repair
*Sort out the basket of dried washing and either put away or add to iron mountain.
    *Take ds to football training
*Do paid work that is in for today
*Make dinner from stores -cold meat salad and chips
    *Do biology course work
*Update progress on the £10 a day challenge
*Check work accounts and update spreadsheet and written accounts

I think that is everything that I need to get done tonight. Now that dd is having a nap and ds is watching cartoons I best make a start and see what I can get done. Hope everyone is having a good Wednesday.

Hi all, I have been missing from the thread and indeed the site for several weeks and after logging on to find a lovely message from another DFW it gave me the prod I needed to get back as I have let things slide so badly.

For reasons I cannot explain I thought I was doing ok and took my eye off the ball, I stopped checking my account religiously and documenting every penny in my cash book and did not keep such a close eye on my spending. This resulted in me going overdrawn and and incurring a charge of £25.00. This last week or so I have let everything slide and have not been sleeping or eating properly and drinking far too much and not been exercising. Unsurprisingly mood swings have been horrendous.

Well today is the day I get back on track. After a good nights sleep and a yoga class this morning I am determined to get a grip again and need a good kick up the proverbial, so please feel free to send them in my direction.

Bank account has been checked and while not great I won't starve, and I have checked Noddle and ordered my Experian report today as I need to check that a default from 6 years ago has been removed.

Paying back bank of mum and dad is currently on hold as my lodger has moved out and I don't have a replacement as yet, fortunately mum is ok with this short term but it is a concern as I am now on part time hours meaning my salary has also reduced.

Will get back to posting in the thread properly tomorrow.
    "The greatest wealth is health"
Bank of Mum and Dad - £20,000 - 3 years fixed at 3.25% and 2 years variable rate, estimated £22,21 due to end November 2017
    Car finance - £10,250.92 over 60 months 9.7% APR, Interest £2612.08, Total £13,906.08 November 2017
    HP £1999.47 - 36 months at 0% -March 2016

I applied to Natwest/rbs to see if I was mis sold ppi (seeing as had just turned 18, wasnt working and told them that and they still gave me a card with ppi on) and try to claim some money back. Worth a shot seeing as i've been able to claim from natwest/rbs about a loan (coming off the balance owed) and from mbna cc (cheque waiting to clear).
Been there, done that and Ebay'd the t shirt.
