Do company's have to announce winner to public?

Hi this is more for facebook really, when the competition has ended do they have to say who the winner is on there page?. I've entered a few now and when I've checked back to see who has won there has been no announcement. With one competition on there with a clothes company, somebody else asked who the Winner was and they replayed that the winner has been contacted. The lady asked to have the name and they didn't replay. I've also asked on another one, commented on the comp post and messaged them and no reply. But they are running new competitions. It's makes me feel very sceptical then, especially when it rafflecopters entries. Shared, tweeted daily and then not knowing who won.
Thank you to all the posters

Good luck to all the compers.:T

No they don't have to announce on FB.

A company asked me if they could announce a win I had (there had been nothing in the T&C's about it), if I had refused it would have been a breach of the data protection act for them to use my details.

A lot of T&Cs state you can write to the company within a time limit to obtain a list of winners.

I found this here but not sure if it's a guideline or set in stone rule
8.28.5 how and when information about winners and results will be made available. Promoters must either publish or make available on request the name and county of major prizewinners and, if applicable, their winning entries. Prizewinners must not be compromised by the publication of excessive personal information

Personally I hate Rafflecopter and don't enter any of theirs. I know this is not the answer you are looking for though.

I have noticed that on Facebook too - company just states the winner has been contacted then they start another comp (usually a like and share). makes me think that maybe no winner was chosen but they want us to continue liking and sharing their page!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

I don't think they have to... although imo i think they should.
  • While it may make it easier for companies to conduct fake competitions, I prefer it that companies don't announce winners. This is for a number of reasons, but mainly due to my privacy and the fact that at times winners have recieved a tirade of abuse from jealous people.

That is a problem with FB as anyone can go to your page if your name is published, unlike the "SAE Winners lists" which are usually just a surname and county.
