Really depends what you like doing and what transport you will have to get around.

If you're into Theme parks then Europa Park is on that side of the country. (£5.50 of Tesco clubcard points will get a good deal on admission by the way - Tesco Offer

If you've no kids and fancy a trip down the river drinking wine then head toward Koblenz. Also lots of vineyards in that area, particually toward the border with Luxembourg. Sightseeing and shopping is great in Koln and the cathedral is a place not to be missed.

Can't remember the dates for the festivals, like the Schutzenfest, but if any of them are running they are well worth a visit.

    Have a great time!

I'd also recommend Koblenz and Cologne, plus a drive along the Rhine between Rudesheim and Koblenz. The vineyards are worth a visit, although the only one I've been to is in Cochem, which is along the Mosel river about 40 mins from Koblenz. Cochem is a nice little town, and the vineyard is just a short walk from the centre. They welcome visitors and sell decent wine.
At Koblenz there's a huge fortress overlooking the city (Ehrenbreitstein) with stunning views. The touristy towns on the river - Rudesheim, Boppard and St Goar are pleasant and you can drink and eat there very reasonably.
Cologne cathedral is one of the most awe-inspiring buildings I've ever seen. The city is well worth visiting. There's a great theme park nearby called fantasia land with some great rides.
Not that far south of Frankfurt is the lovely university town of Heidelberg - well worth a visit. And further south again is Stuttgart, which is also nice. That's not far from the Black Forest which has beautiful scenery and some nice little towns
