Norton Anti Virus/ Internet Security

I've just started getting the pop up to renew my NAV/IS product, so I had a look and it costs £21 for a years renewal :( .

Firstly is it worth renewing the subscription ?. If not how easy is it to remove NAV from my computer, I've heard it is quite complicated to remove the programme from a computer. I've heard AVG is a good programme for an alternative virus programme, is this the case ? and finally what's a good firewall programme.

Thanks for any replies.

Renewing subscriptions for Symantec products is a pointless exercise, imho. They seem to release a new version of the same product every year anyway, so a few extra pounds (not even that, if on offer) would get you a new version, which would have another 1-year subscription bundled with it.

I agree with DVB, it's usually worth spending a small amount extra to get the latest version.

It's easy to uninstall, but you get what you pay for so don't expect AVG free edition to be as good. I personally would recommend Kaspersky Personal 5.0 (https://www.kaspersky.com)

In the past I have always paid the little bit extra and got the updated version but this year when I tried to install Internet Security 2005 I have had nothing but trouble with my PC.

I have since uninstalled it and changed to AVG Virus and Sygate Firewall (both free) which, at the moment, I have been quite happy with. Also, I cannot believe how much faster my computer is running without Norton on it. It used up so much resources. I do admit though that I do not have the Parental Control but that isn't really a problem.

Personally I was quite happy with Norton in the past (although the PC did run a slowe) but with the problems caused by their latest edition I don't know if I would feel happy buying it again.

I got NAV 2005 from Savapoint cheaper than Symantec were going to charge me for renewing NAV 2003. I must say, I do agree with others that NAV 2005 does seem to make my PC a bit slower when booting up and initially accessing some programmes, but once I'm up and running it seems fine. I am running Windows XP, I am on broadband and my PC is running all day. I have never had a virus on this PC since I bought it three years ago, so I reckon NAV does its job!

PS - you also get a free gift with the order, for just the price of the additional postage - I got 'Buster' DVD for only £1 extra!

Thanks zzzLazyDaisy - I've just ordered Norton Internet Security from Savapoint. They were cheaper than anywhere that came up on Kelkoo or Dealtime! And I got DK Children's Encyclopaedia for my free gift. I'm really pleased - thanks again!
