Is online Car Tax valid before disc comes?

Last time I renewed the tax disc never showed up, after 10 days I called the and they said they could either get one out special delivery or pick it up from the nearest DVLA office same day, so if you order it now even if it doesn't show up by the fist you could get one within a day or two.

I applied for my tax on the 15th late in the evening and received it on the 17th, I am going on holiday and need the car in June so I thought I would apply in plenty of time, I cannot beleive how quick they were. I am sure I read somewhere you cannot drive the car without a valid tax disc

It's not guaranteed that you can get you tax done on line. I have valid insurance but according to the DVLA, last week, it's not registered on their data base. Checked with the insurance company and they agree that I am insured. Took forms etc to post office and got it with no trouble. So don't assume that you can do it, without checking first.

Also, you will have to do it at the Post Office if your MOT is due at the end of the month before your tax needs doing. You need to have an MOT valid on the day the disc comes into force rather than one that's valid on the day you apply for it either online or at the PO.
