and remember the FOS view is that they expect cancellation to be done a broadly pro rata basis plus an admin charge.

With about three months of a £320 policy left and given admin fee of £50 you aren't going to get much of a refund.

You also won't get any NCB for this year so, depending on how much you have already, it might be worth paying the £50 and finishing the year with your existing insurer to collect an extra year of NCB

She has no accidents or points and protected 8 years NCB.

I've just gone into the Quidco site and they are offering 40 cash back on a policy with privilege.

Quote comes to 320, so reduced to 280 for 12 months is a good price. So.. I guess we will try to beat them down on the price to change cars and see if we can move it to lower than 50 on the basis that we have no documentation.

    If I do nothing and get a new policy - 280 = 23.30 a month
    If I pay 50, and then get this deal in Sep = 330 = 22 a month.

    Suppose it makes sense.

Lesson - Stick with the Privilege (I've had good prices and service for the last 3 years from them, and I've changed cars)

When you bought it (presumably online), you will have had to accept their conditions prior to the policy being issued.

Where are you getting the conditions from now that you are quoting un your posts above?

If you can read up on the policy now on their website, then isn't that what you could (should) have done before buying the policy?

    Yes. That's correct.

In the real world.... can you honestly say that you read the Terms and conditions of everything that has pages and pages with products you buy...

    car insurance X2
    Home insurance
    Water
    Gas
    Electric
    Phone
    Broadband
    mobile phone
    caravan insurance
    breakdown cover
goes on and on and on...

There are some things I look out for and like I said, I've had about 20+ cars over the years and changed mid policy without an issue, usually 10-15 to change. Just not 50.

Lesson learnt, not using them again.

Admin fees becoming sky high is a side effect of the comparison website arms race. To try and get to the top of the list insurers make the premium as small as they dare and charge huge fees to make up the difference. The customer in the street seems to like policies with small premiums and high fees (otherwise why do they keep on buying them?) so it's going to stay like this. Which sucks if you move a lot or change your car often.

Yes it use to be cheaper to change things. That has changed and not just with your current Ins. Co. You are going to have to do an awful lot of reading to find the one the charges the least for changes and the one that does will probably be more expensive to take out the first place. My car insurance this year cost £112 and I'm getting £45 of that back from Quidco. I don't expect to change anything so it suits me.

Nobody seems to have mentioned that the new vehicle might be a group higher which could account for some of the difference.

The cars group may not matter. Its the risk that counts.

2 grout 15 cars maybe totally different end of the price scale because the company you choose have more claims on one over the other.

If an insurer had lots of claims with red fiesta's then the price may go up. Yet they could insure blue ones for less money.
