Hello all.
i am new to this so please excuse if i do not use correctly.
I have recently moved to london and after not attending Uni i am living in my first shared house.
We have been living here for around three weeks and in complete bad luck the day we spoke about house insurance we got robbed lastnight!!!
We are all ok thank goodness but our Ipads etc have gone.
i am now looking for insurance (after securing the house a lot more) but am having trouble working out what is right for me. I only really have an Ipad and an old Macbook that are items of any worth in the house...same for the rest of the girls. No TV, No kitchen gadgets no Silver/ornaments etc.
i have looked into insurance but most of them require an excess payment that is far more than the worth of my items.
As it's a shared house i know this affects things.
i have looked into just getting my gadgets insured...i am looking at about £10 a month.
i was just wondering if any body had any advice on getting contents insurance in a shared house.
is it better to all get individual insurance?
club together for it?
get the sole gadget insurance?
im pretty much going in blind so would be great if any body had any advice!!
THANK YOU! R XX

How many of you are there? Some insurers will consider non-related joint policyholders but only in small numbers and even then introduce a clause that theft must be accompanied with evidence of forced/ violent access/ exit
You could try also speaking to Endsleigh who given their traditional target of students are more used to dealing with non-related sharers.
Getting your own contents insurance will be a challenge unless each of your rooms have their own locks in which case your room is effectively considered your home and the rest of the property and further afield would basically be considered out of the house (ie no or limited cover in the communal areas and no cover for communal owned items)0 -
There are 5 female professionals in the house.
all rooms have locks on...
i have talked to Endsleigh and thats where i can get the Gadget only insurance and the £20 a month for the contents..
ill do some more digging.
thank you so much though.
