"Going straight to IFA on self employed basis is impossible"

I see many advisers coming through this route, including myself, so I'm intrigued about this.

Do you mean it is impossible in terms of full financial advice ? Or do you have the same view for any level of advice i.e. mortgage advice only?

mortgage advisers are not regulated as much as IFAs. The rules for owner/partner IFAs are different to mortgage advisers.
Just to clarify I'm talking about becoming a self employed AR working within a branch, i.e. an independant mortgage adviser in an estate agents.

That means you wont hold owner/partner control functions. It sounds like you will be attached to an existing firm. Plus you are doing mortgages and not full advice.
But with the amount of new advisers entering financial services through the route I mentioned, then the FSA, networks and firms must be comfortable with this?

They are at mortgage level adviser level.

Going straight to IFA being attached to an existing firm is possible but unusual (with the exception of some salesforces) due to the length of time it takes to train you and you inability to earn in that period. These firms normally want you to do mortgages first then progress from there to full advice.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

    hey guys,

what's the best way to approach a bank or estate agency for a trainee advising role? I am fully cemap qualified(with no previous sales experience although i did set up a lettings business last yr, working as an intermediary to find tentants for other estate agents, which didn't really take off) and currently taking my cefa.
I am 25yrs, living in essex and would like a bank role just for experience, i dn't even mind if its not a paid role to begin with, just aslong as i get the experience!!!!

This thread gets better and better! The advice i'm reading is excellent, please keep it coming!

Just one thing that I thought that I would ask you guys that are MA's, is:

Please can you describe a 'day in the life' of a mortgage advisor? What you do- home visits etc.

Would be interesting to get an inside view.

I'm close to enrolling with IFS now to start module 1, quite excited to be honest.

    Thanks in advance
