Vanquis phoned work!

Im usually pretty good at paying bills but this month ive been a bit stressed getting ready for our holiday, packing, getting everyone else sorted I forgot to pay Vanquis before we left, realising this yesterday I went online and paid it, although the new statement was due today.
I knew there would be a charge on the account but at the end of the day it was my fault, lesson learned.
Its my husbands CC btw, im just the one that makes sure everything gets paid (or not in this case).
So today I answer the house phone and its Vanquis, I said my husband isnt in at the moment, can you ring back after 4, I told her I understand you cant speak to me about it but I know what its about and it was my fault I made the payment late and we will pay the charges etc as usual. DH just phoned to say they tried his mobile but as hes driving obviously he cant answer the phone, work phoned him, so he stopped, rung them back to be told Vanquis had called for him and he needs to ring them urgently.
This is the first time weve ever been late with a payment, so I cant see the urgency in ringing 3 numbers for him, but I was wondering, are they allowed to ring work, its not down as a contact number, the number was what was required to complete the application form, it wouldnt let us not put it in, can we make a complaint?

Vanquis know their customers very well. They're mostly people who 'forget' to pay their bills and can't get credit elsewhere.
Of course you can make a complaint. Detials here: http://www.vanquis.co.uk/contact-us.0 -
I can tell you now, this is a one off, we only have the card to improve my husbands credit rating we certainly dont "forget" on purpose.
The complaint is purely because they phoned work and unfortunately it was my husbands boss who answered the phone and didnt take too kindly to taking a message for him.0 -
Did you explicitly say 'don't call the work number'? Otherwise they are within their rights to try.
3 calls might be a bit over the top - but as has been pointed out - Vanquis are setup for this kind of customer.0 -
The Office of Fair Trading states that creditors must respect debtors' reasonable requests of when/where/how to contact them. I think not calling the work number/bothering someone at work is a reasonable request, but did you make that request? If you supplied a work number but never asked them not to contact you at work, then they couldn't possibly have known you didn't want them to do that.
I don't think there's any basis for a complaint, but you should ask them to refrain from doing that in the future and THEN you might have grounds for a complaint if they ignore you. What will your verse be?
