Forgive me as I know this has probably been asked before but currently with Scottish Power and British Gas and am looking into combining the two. I have signed up to the energy club and the best deal at the moment seems to be either variable with Swalec or fixed with Edf energy.

So what's best at the moment variable or fixed and as I'm new to this am still worried about switching incase there's any problems so is there anything I need to be careful of.

Thanks Lee

How much more does the EDF fixed deal cost you?
Do you think prices will increase by such an amount that it will end up you saving money with a fixed deal in the long term?

One good thing about the EDF Blue+ fixed tariff is that there are no early exit fees.

If both offerings are cheaper than you are currently on, do switch to one of them. A saving is a saving after all, evn if it's not the best saving for you.

There is no 'best'. It depends on your perception of risk-do you want to pay more to lock in at a fixed price?
If you fix, the issue then is, at what price?

I am currently paying around £44 with each supplier totalling £88 a month. I never like being tied in to fixed prices so am swaying towards the variable but as you say if the fixed has no early exit fees then I would feel a little safer.

Don't worry. As soon as you start considering another tariff from another supplier you will then start to notice whenever their corresponding complaints thread bubbles up on to the front page.

I'd say it's a good idea to fix as it's very rare that gas and electricity prices will be lower than the previous years.

Fix for as long as possible, in this case 3 years+
