Paypal funds notification shows different amount to fund in paypal account

I recently sold an item on ebay for several hundred pounds. The buyer paid immediatey after auction via paypal and I got the email from paypal stating funds sent from xyz for the amount that the item was sold for.

This morning I logged into my paypal account and the transaction shows a different amount as having been received, around £100 less than the ebay sale amount. The transaction does link to the ebay sale and vice versa (the buyer completed checkout through ebay) so I'm baffled as to how the amounts can differ.

From recollection, whenever I buy something from ebay and complete checkout hrough ebay, I don't even get any option to change the amount I'm sending as it's all generated automatically. the only way if for the seller to send an amended invoice which I didn't do in this instance.

Can anyone shed any light?

Hi,

The paypal balance will be minus fees - if you click on details for the transaction and scroll down it will show you what fees paypal took for handling the payment.

e.g.
Total amount: £32.87 GBP
Fee amount: -£1.81 GBP
Net amount: £31.06 GBP

Is the transaction total amount right and the balance wrong or is the transaction amount wrong?

Ah so it is. Thanks for the clarification, was worried I had been scammed then.

Is this a new thing though? I've sold on ebay after a long hiatus and I don't recall paypal fees being deducted like this before.

Paypal fees have always been deducted within the paypal account on receipt. The ebay fees are charged seperately later, so remember there will be another bill yet to pay.

Paypal fees aren't £100 on a £900 (the max "several hundred" can be) transaction! Did you make a typo in the original post?

Ebay fees are nearly £100 but those aren't paid automatically.
