I live in a lovely little road where nearly all the houses are owned.
However, 2 doors up from me is a council house.
Unfortunately the nice family that lived there moved away and the council have been in there for months decoration and doing it up (curtains and dish clothes an all !!?!)
To my dismay they moved a women and teenage daughter in there and in the nicest possible way …. they are complete chavs.
The first night in the house they had a massive party which had cars racing up and down the road, chav teens smashing bottles in the road, fighting and screaming.
The music was so noisy it set off my babies monitor (and woke the baby), I asked them them keep the noise down and was told -"go f**k yourself you c*** (from one of the drunk fellas)
The screaming and smashing finally stopped at 4:45am after the police arrested a few people.
Thankfully I've since found out that these people aren't actually council tenants as such, they are they for a few weeks on a temporary basis as their house (that they own) has been damaged by subsidence and the council have put them in here.
What are the council playing at ??
Why are they putting someone up who owns a house ?!?!
My fear is that this house will be used as a halfway type house and all the dregs will dumped here.
I'm utterly gutted to be honest, it's a lovely road with great neighbours …. these scum bags have really changed the atmosphere of the street.
Is it worth contacting to council ….. would it do any good ?!

We have a house about 3 doors up that is EXACTLY the same.. somewhere people are moved to 'temporarily' until something more permanent is found.
The person we have there at the moment has people there at all hours, appears to be dealing drugs from them, has no electric in her house (not that she cares), causes fights in the street and screams etc.
Almost everyone in the street signed a petition to have her removed, complained daily to the housing association (who could care LESS!).. Finally it went to court to have her evicted, they told her she has 2 hours to get her stuff out (after having about 4 months to do this!) and she came back and they can't get her back out now.... It's just dragging on and on and she's just dragging the street down.
Her dad turned up before when she was being evicted the first time, broke into the house in the middle of the day to get her stuff out. The police turned up and arrested him and he kicked off massively.
Why are people like this!? Go get a freakin job and live like respectable people.0 -
I would definitely contact the council, and do so every time the new occupants cause a nuisance. It may be more than a few weeks - these things have a way of dragging on.[0

Cheers guys, will contact the council and see if there is anything they can do.
It's gutted me to be honest.
I work my backside off to afford to pay the mortgage and bills so it completely dismays me when utter scum get given a lovely newly decorated house for free and treat it like this.
My real worry is that these people will drag the house value down.
I know it may sound like an over reaction, but if you was looking at buying a house and turned up to view it and two doors up was screaming abuse, fighting and playing music so noisy it was vibrating the walls then you'd more than likely run a mile.
I know that you can just as easily get people buy a house that are scum bags…. I just don't like the Idea of it being used as a halfway house for dregs.0 -
You could also look up your Safer Neighbourhood Team (Police) if you have one. Register specific complaints with them, as they are generally a bit better at following up problems when the troublemakers have sobered up and have a more detailed knowledge of the specific tools for this kind of incident. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Im sorry for what you are going through, but really, comments about people in council housing? Get a job and live like respectable people? (and Im aware that it wasnt the OP who made those comments, but it just seems like a general theme when people in council housing take a bashing)
Do people seriously think that a job is all it takes to make people who live in dysfunction functional.
And I live in a council housing estate full of people like this. I see it every day. Some of the anti social stuff Ive been dealing with in some shape or form has been going on for years, into double figures.
Its not that easy to evict people, sometimes councils and housing associations hands are tied legally, it can take a long time to get people out.
And Im sorry, people who live in supported accommodation arent all dregs. I worked in homeless units for a very long time and yes you will get people who have had extremely dysfunctional backgrounds, no support, who may have mental health problems and addictions and every single case is different.
But Ive worked with lots of people who have turned their lives around with help and support.
And yes, its horrible when one family ruins an entire estate, because even in places where theres a high concentration of council houses, many people live quite peacefully and it only takes one or two to drag the place down.
But rather than sitting calling people dregs and scumbags, maybe you could actually take some positive action
Find out who your local anti social task force are and involve them
Contact your MP or local councillor
Involve the police, or the community police, many areas have community police
Anti social task forces can supply households with recording equipment so that you can record noise
And if this is happening after 11pm at night, call the police every time, the police have to make reports back to the council when they are called out and the housing at some point will have to take some action
I hardly think that some council tenants being there for a few weeks will drag the house value down. Also, you said the previous tenants were lovely, so instead of thinking of the worst case scenario, why worry about that until something has happened
And speaking as someone who has lived in council housing of some form and another since the day I was born, Im not a chav, I work hard. I may not have lots of money but neither do a lot of people and I also have a decent education and common sense and know how to behave as a decent tenant who doesnt cause anyone any problems
And I am very very sorry for what you are going through, because Ive had enough nuisance neighbours over the years to know exactly what its like, but labelling people as dregs and scum really saddens me and if your attitude to people who may need a halfway house is a not in my backyard one, fine.
But not everyone who needs help and support is a useless case. We could all be a few months away from redunancy or a breakdown and need a bit of support.
Ive worked with many young people with multiple issues, including addictions and mental health issues. Some very highly intelligent people who didnt have a chance in life due to family breakdowns.
Not dregs. Labelling anyone who you might not want in the same street as you is quite sad in my opinion.0 -
lol, knowing my luck, I'd be arrested and named and shamed in the local paper (whilst the chav's get to go on a government funded holiday or plumbing course).

:rotfl: I was reading that link, posted it in another thread here, then read this thread and saw that post. It was the timing of this that tickled me.0
