hi, Our drains keep getting blocked.
We, along with our neighbour remove drain covers and put jet wash down until the water runs freely. This works for a few weeks but then the smell is back again.
Any ideas for anything that i can put down the drains, or stop the build up ??????

If you are unblocking the drain every few weeks,it looks like you have a broken drain.0 -
Hi Plumb1,
Tthe smell is normally always there, but when it gets too bad like now they get cleared. Drains get cleared like this about 3 or 4 times a year.
If it is a broken drain is it up to me to pay for it ?0 -
Under normal conditions the drains shouldn,t realy smell(as smells should vent through the soil stack/vent pipe),if the smell is coming from the manhole, make sure its sealed, you can just some grease around the lip of the manhole, this should give you a air tight seal.
Iff the is damage to the drain and its on you property or shared drain the yes you will have to pay.It is usually the house holder who is responable until it attach,s the the sadle on the main drain in the road.0 -
If it's a shared drain, you could ask all the neighbours to split the cost of getting someone in to investigate with a camera.
You can decide what to do when you know what the problem is.
Your household insurance may cover you for drains. If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!

Thanks for all your help,
We are going to wait until they get blocked again and then call someone out.
Last night spoke to the neighbours and they agree that we should share the cost if the house insurance does not cover it. :T0
