Electoral roll quandary

Options
Hi...just registered...and looked at all the topics but not one for electoral roll so has to go here. It is credit card related anyway.

My question is...does the address where my bank account is registered have to match my address where I am registered on the electoral roll. A bit of background for you...

I had my bank account at my mothers address for a good two years.
Applied for credit card other day got refused
Just sent off form to get on electoral roll but for where my army base is.
Cause putting my name on the roll at my mothers will affect her benefits/council tax no doubt. So I want to register here at the army. (done)
But I don't want possible important bank letters to be missed so can I keep that address there?

If I wait six months and apply for more credit...will it look funny that I'm on the roll in forest of Dean council but bank address in warwickshire sorry for bad typing on my phone at the min.regards

It's bad to have different active addresses.

I would suggest you ask your Unit Registration Officer to explain the options you have for selecting where to register.

  • Cool thanks for that. So if i relent and tell my bank my new, army address, everything should be fine huh? I don't have to change my driving licence and everything else do I?

I'm thinking bank and electoral roll...both same address, wait six months...lovely nice credit rating. Hope so thanks for the link, see how it goes I guess.

    Cheers

You can be on the electoral roll at both your mum's address and your army base. If you live at both address for an equal portion of the year, this is fine. There is, in fact, a special registration form for service voters: https://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/register_to_vote/armed_forces/registration_forms_armed_force.aspx

You being on your mum's address will not affect her council tax/benefits. You just need to contact the electoral office who will put a note on the property to say you are a service voter and do not live at the house full time.

(I am an electoral officer - lots of service voters register at home rather than barracks)

Sometimes you can be asked to prove you ID and address, and the license is one of very few acceptable proofs.
