Where to buy a good bed at a good price?

Options
Hello all,

I am looking for a bed for myself I am very tall and need a bed which is going to be long enough and wide enough, so would need a place that can make a bed long enough and a bed base too.

I also wanted a very good quality mattress too.

The prices I have seen so far for a good mattress and bed are very expensive so far. Does anyone know of any good companies that I can get a better deal?

Any help much appreciated.!!!

    Define expensive.

If you want quality then you are going to have to pay for it. Obviously bespoke items are going to very expensive!

I would expect to pay over £500 for a decent king size mattress.

we got a king size bed and sultan matress both from Ikea. Its been 1.5 yrs. My husband and I still think its the most comfortable bed we ever had. we are buying a house now and will need another bed for the guest bed room. We are going for this again .

we paid appx £450 for both.

Find your local independent shop and ask them about special sizes, generally they are only about 10-25% dearer then standard sizes.

    What size are you after?
Double 4ft6 by 6ft3, King Size 5ft by 6ft6 or Super King 6ft by 6ft6.

Beds can be made plus or minus 3 inches from that, but generally it be a divan bed not a frame and mattress.

You could look into VSpring beds.
Warning - very expensive - around 3-4K for both the mattress & the base.
However, they have a 10 years guarantee and their beds are extremely comfortable, customizable and durable. If you get 10 years out of it (which is easily!), you'd be paying 1 pound a day for the bed...

Do you find you can obtain bedding elsewhere to fit Ikea beds or do you have to buy from Ikea?

We bought a Sealy on offer with Sainsbury's last month and saved £500 so I'd suggest looking at manufacturers' websites to find something you like then trawling the web/local stores for offers.
