Vanish stain remover and red wine stains

Options
I've managed to spill red wine on a favourite top. Today I nearly bought Vanish stain remover but a small bottle was nearly £5. Can anyone confirm whether it actually works for wine stains?

I wouldnt nesessarily go for vanish...ive always found that to be more of a general stain remover or even an over time whitener that just gives things a fresher look...

Im sure there probably is a very cheap and easy household thing to use...perhaps asking on the old style thread might be useful...otherwise in the absence of not knowing anything specific I would probably opt for using a stain devil as they are more concentrated than vanish IMO...

Have you tried soaking it in cold water first? Ideally you should do this while the stain is still wet, then wash & your top will be like new.

I couldn't do it while still wet as I was out when it happened. It has already been through the wash once which got most of it out but not all.

Would anyone have objected if you had stripped off and rinsed the top out? :D

Have you tried Ace fabric bleach? It works great on most clothing & upholstery stains. It's available in Wilkinson's & most supermarkets. Costs about £2 a bottle, sometimes less when on offer.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I might try that. My slight problem is that the garment has different fabrics and is part white and part patterned/different fabric so i can't bleach the whole thing. Could just put a little on the marks before I wash it again.
