Two thoughts firstly make sure you rotate them in the direction of the screw thrread when twisting them to clear the blockage. Secondly they sometimes come with guide wheels to help where there are sharp bends in the pipe work.
  • Hi
I had a blocked drain and rang my local council, because my house was built prior to 1937 the council told me that they are responsible for the drains and cleared them for free!
If you live in an oldish house it's worth a phone call

The ones we borrowed only have the claw type fitting, we tried turning it clockwise but but it go anywhere, are you able to soften the rods so we could get them down,

take the claw fitting off and just try the rods alone.
better still, buy a rubber disk to fit the end. they work miracles.
remember to always turn the rods clockwise.
    Get some gorm.

Might be stating the obvious but are you sure there is not a u bend in the drain???
If there is you will never get rods down.

Are you sure you're not rodding into a trap? I discovered I had been a while ago. You may have two pipes one of which may not be immediately apparent (has a lid on it or something) and it is that one you should be rodding - if that makes any sense?
